Massachusetts Creative Council Budget

Public funding for the arts is under pressure from the federal government. But I didn’t expect pressure from the Massachusetts government as well. The Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee’s new budget recommends a 28% cut to the arts and cultural community by funding the Massachusetts Cultural Council at $10 million, down from $14 million last year.

Today, I sent letters to my state representatives, asking them not just to restore last year’s funding level, but rather to raise the funding to $16 million, in response to anticipated federal cuts. MASSCreative made it easy, through this link. But I would have done it anyway, to support the creative economy that has added the state so vibrant for so long.
