Boston Mayoral debate

Those in positions of power sometimes feel threatened by debate. They shouldn’t. Healthy intellectual discourse makes democracy stronger. Debate is not just about challenging power structures, it’s about making policies better. That’s because policies are more robust when they’re conceived with multiple perspectives from different stakeholders.

Today, I signed a change.org petition to ask Boston Mayor Marty Walsh to engage in a public debate in advance of the preliminary election on September 26. He’s promised to take part in the debate, yet nothing has been scheduled.
